Cypress has a stellar contemporary dining room with a solid menu by Chef Craig Deihl. The charcuterie program made Cypress go from a Charleston standard to a Beard-worthy notable nationwide. It's fun to gawk at the entire wall (floor to ceiling) wine storage under the colorful, cosmo lighting fixtures. But if you time it right, your best bet is to skip the dining room, walk right upstairs to the bar, and prepare yourself for the best deal in town. Burger night at Cypress is a $5 deal that is a must-do, and we can thank Chef Deihl's meat standards for that. They churn out over a hundred burgers on Monday nights, presenting a few different options each week, as well as perfectly executed sides. Our favorite small plate they have ever offered is the cheese curd dish--they're fried to perfection, then finished off with a drizzle sweet/sour Asian chile sauce that will knock your socks off. To think we could go to Cypress on a Monday after work, feast on two fantastic gourmet burgers, beers, and sides for about twenty bucks is yet another reason why I love the Charleston food scene.
