I can't say things about Cru Cafe without getting a little weepy. Cru Cafe is a place so near and dear to my heart because it's an eatery that Austin grew to love and gradually became so loyal to, it became our favorite go-to spot for a weekend date night, an unexpected stroll that turns into drinks and a small plate, or a special glimpse into "where the locals go" for out-of-town guests. Cru Cafe resides in a tiny Charleston Single House off Pinckney Street. The four-seat counter opens up into the kitchen, which is our absolute favorite place to dine in Charleston. We chat with the line cooks and Chef, wait staff and owner. They are known for their stuffed chicken concoction in which they stuff with cheese, bread and fry it, and top with a tomato sauce and serve with mashed potatoes. But for us, we usually gravitate towards lots of small plates and sides, and split a fish special or the swordfish dish. It's so romantic and just FUN to sit and enjoy the quaint charms of this small eatery, chat with the talented folks who work there, and enjoy the creatively-crafted provisions. Don't forget they are the best caterers in town too!
